Part of practically every person’s childhood involves riding a bicycle, starting, of course, with the tricycle, maybe yours was one of those marvellous Schwinn tricycles. Whether it was on the playground at school, or riding through the neighborhood with your friends, riding a tricycle in your youth is right up there in the nostalgia annals, with chasing after the ice cream truck as the music blares announcing the ice cream inside, and skinning your knees countless times. For many of us, we rode around on Schwinn tricycles.

Schwinn Tricycles have over a century of experience

Schwinn has been around for longer than most people can even remember, making bikes that we rode from preschool age, all the way up through high school, and for some of us, into college.

Schwinn was started by Ignaz Schwinn, a German born man who started his bicycle company in America in 1895. Indeed, Ignaz Schwinn helped increase the popularity of bicycling, causing Schwinn to be associated with the American past- time of riding bicycles. And of course, that past- time starts as a child, with Schwinn tricycles.

Nowadays you can buy new Schwinn tricycles and bicycles with more modern styles. But you can also find many of the classics made by Schwinn “back in the day” as a collector’s item. Either way, you certainly cannot go wrong with this Schwinn tricycles. For those who grew up with this kind of tricycle and/or bicycle, you may feel loyalty to the brand, and for good reason. Schwinn is known for its quality, durability and reasonable cost. So you may want your children to start off on the right foot by purchasing Schwinn tricycles for them.

Schwinn tricycles specs

Currently on the market is one of the most famous of Schwinn Tricycles, the Roadster. This trike is a very popular tricycle on the market today, and is for children ages three to six years old. The Schwinn Roadster Tricycle has many features that will attract both parents and children. First, because it is made with a steel frame it is very durable and will last as long as your child is riding it, and is ready to graduate to a bicycle. In fact, if you have more than one child, this can be a hand-me-down trike, that all the children in your family can use and enjoy. The tires on this tricycle are air-filled rubber, instead of plastic, which means your tots will get a much smoother ride out of their trike, and you won’t be listening to that loud plastic-on-gravel sound all day. The Schwinn Tricycles Roadster also has a bucket seat, to help cradle your child, to prevent them from spilling out, and a low center of gravity, so it is less likely that the trike will tip over. It is possible for these Schwinns tricycles to tip over when making sharp turns, so always remind your child not to be a daredevil. The tricycle can be a little heavy at 21.5 pounds, but the benefits are well worth it.

Schwinn Roadster Tricycles are available in three colors: red, blue and pink, and can be found in many stores, usually at a price of around $89.99. But don’t let your children ride around on their tricycles alone. There is also a Schwinn tricycle for adults! The Schwinn Tricycles Meridian Adult is a three-wheeled bike which has an aluminum frame that is a low, step-through frame, a padded cruiser saddle and front and rear brakes. This adult Schwinn tricycles are perfect for leisurely rides either on your own, or alongside your children, as they ride their new Schwinn Tricycles of the Roadster model.

Today’s modern bicycles are a far cry from our earliest attempts at pedal power. In fact, what many regard as the birth of the bicycle had no pedals at all. It was more of a wooden hobby horse on wheels that the rider would straddle and push the machine along with his legs. While it had no pedals, it did at least have steering. It was known as the ‘running machine’. Compared with today’s range of bikes, it doesn’t sound much fun really!

Later, another wooden beast would hit the fashionable cobblestone streets of Europe – the Boneshaker. The appropriately named Boneshaker had pedals, and was entirely made of wood, apart from the hard, metal wheels. Thankfully, for the well-to-do riding public of Europe, the Boneshaker would soon be superseded during the 1870s by the far more comfortable, but far more dangerous, Penny Farthing.

The Penny Farthing was easily distinguishable from all bicycles that came before it by its huge front wheel and small rear wheel. It also, for the first time, offered the relative comfort of hard rubber tires. The size of the front wheel was so large because the larger the wheel, the more efficient the pedalling. While this allowed the well-heeled to hurtle recklessly at speed about the streets, it was also the cause of many serious injuries. All that was needed was for a stick to jam in the front wheel or a dog to run across the bicycle’s path and the hapless rider would be propelled over the handlebars and onto the hard ground below, usually on his head. Helmets were not a necessary accessory in those days!

For the ladies of the day, riding a Penny Farthing would just not do, so an adult version of the tricycle was invented in order for proper ladies to enjoy the pleasures of riding through the parks and gardens without compromising their good reputations.

Later, the Safety Bicycle was introduced. This was a redesigned version of the Penny Farthing that placed the huge front wheel at the back of the bike and the small rear wheel in the front. This new design considerably reduced the risk of being flung over the handlebars like a rag doll and ending up with a severe concussion or permanent brain damage.

By the 1880s, the bicycle was going through further changes. The pneumatic tire, the use of ball bearings and the spring seat made riding a much more comfortable affair. It was during this time also that more practical designs incorporating two wheels of equal size were introduced, making riding a far safer and enjoyable experience. The bicycle was fast evolving into the modern machines we enjoy today.

It was during the later part of the 20th century however that the bicycle really started to develop. In 1963 for example, Schwinn introduced a radical new bike called the Sting-Ray. The Sting-Ray borrowed much of its design features from the easyrider motorcycles and included high-rise handlebars, a comfy banana seat and a stick-shift. The Schwinn Sting-Ray allowed its young riders to become far more adventurous in their riding and it wasn’t long before wheelies, jumps and other tricks were being performed. The Schwinn Sting-Ray would soon lead to the development of the BMX and the rest, as they say, is history!

When it comes to fitness equipment the recumbent bikes and trikes are creating waves in the fitness world as well as the market these days. But then you should not select any equipment in haste. Do not give yourself a chance to regret your decision of making a flawed choice. Hence gaining an adequate knowledge of the features that you should look for in the cycle that you intend to buy is going to help you a lot in making the right choice. Out here we will discuss about what you should take into account before buying a recumbent trike.

The first criterion that you should think of is, whether you want to use the trike on a regular basis or occasionally. Every trike cannot be used for every purpose. The models for heavy usage are different from the models for comparatively light usage. It is very important for you to choose according to your usage to get the maximum benefit from your recumbent trike. Subjecting a trike that is meant for light usage to heavy usage is sure going to take its toll on the trike. If you are an occasional user, I suggest that you go for the ones that are meant for occasional usage. They are available at cheaper rates than the ones meant for heavy usage or multiple users, which may be preferred by the gyms.

There are two types of trikes available in the sports equipment market today, namely, the delta and the tadpole. The delta trike is designed like a conventional tricycle. It has a pair of wheels at the back. The tadpole is rather unconventional. It has a pair of wheels in the front. It is seen that the tadpole models are more in use than the delta models. With the tadpole model you will have problems embarking and disembarking from it. In comparison to the manufacturers of delta models, you can get to see more number of manufacturers of the tadpole.

If you are particular in getting a delta for yourself you should put some efforts in searching for a good brand. They are pricier in comparison to the tadpoles. Both the models have their own advantages and disadvantages and your own judgment is supreme. If you have difficulty in climbing on to a low-lying seat, it is better for you purchase a delta-type trike.

Coming to the speed at which you can drive these trikes, it is generally observed that those with low and narrow seats- the ones on which you can assume a relaxed posture seem to ride really fast. But coming to stability issues such a trike is not a good choice. Besides, it is not as suitable for riding long distances.
